Compliance & Quality
At Blacks Fasteners, quality and compliance are fundamental to how we operate. As a New Zealand owned importer, distributor, and wholesaler / supplier of fasteners and construction products, we take our responsibilities to customers, regulators, and the industry seriously.
This commitment to quality is formalised through our Quality Policy, which is approve by senior management and reviewed regularly. Our Quality Policy aligns with the principles of ISO 9001:2015 and underpins our broader compliance and continous improvement journey.
Building Product Information Requirements (BPIR) Compliance
Blacks Fasteners is compliant with the Building Product Information Requirements (BPIR) under the Building Regulations 2022.
The BPIR framework ensures that building product users have access to clear, consistent information to support Building Code compliance. As required, we make relevant BPIR documentation available for designated building products supplied by Blacks Fasteners.
Our BPIR commitment includes:
- Providing BPIR documentation for applicable designated building products
- Making product information accessible at the point of sale
- Keeping documentation current and available for download
- Working with suppliers to ensure accurate and complete product information

ISO 9001 Quality Management System – In Progress
Blacks Fasteners is actively working towards certification to ISO 9001:2015, the internationally recognised Quality Management System (QMS) standard.
While we are not yet ISO 9001 certified, our internal quality systems are being developed and aligned with ISO 9001 principles to support consistent processes, accountability, and continuous improvement across the business.
This work includes:
- Documented procedures and work instructions
- Defined responsibilities and quality objectives
- Ongoing training and quality awareness
- Regular review and improvement of systems and processes
Achieving ISO 9001 certification is an important milestone in strengthening our operational discipline and supporting future industry compliance requirements.
Bolt Importer Charter (SCNZ) – Working Towards Certification
Blacks Fasteners is working towards compliance with the Steel Construction New Zealand (SCNZ) Bolt Importer Charter (BIC).
The Bolt Importer Charter is an industry quality assurance scheme focused on good procurement practices, supplier due diligence, traceability, and verification of structural fasteners and threaded anchor products. Participation in the scheme requires an independently audited Quality Management System.
Current status:
- We are not yet certified under the SCNZ Bolt Importer Charter
- ISO 9001 certification is a prerequisite for Charter audit and approval
- Our systems and supplier controls are being developed in line with Charter expectations
In preparation, we are strengthening:
- Supplier due diligence and verification processes
- Product traceability and documentation controls
- Purchase order and inspection requirements
- Ongoing supplier performance monitoring
We will only represent Bolt Importer Charter certification once all audit and approval requirements have been formally completed.
