Blacks Fasteners was founded in 1989 by Roger Black with the aim to provide a comprehensive range of high-quality fasteners at competitive prices. What began as a single store has grown into a nationwide network, built on Roger’s vision and the dedication of our team.

Our story is proudly rooted in Aotearoa, and we honour the principles of manaakitanga (hospitality and care) and whanaungatanga (relationships and connection) in the way we do business. Roger’s commitment to integrity, customer care, and innovation has shaped our culture and continues to guide us today. Each milestone reflects not just growth, but the trust and relationships we’ve built with our customers and suppliers over more than three decades.

Our Timeline

• 1989 – Blacks Fasteners opens its first store in Christchurch, laying the foundation for a customer-first approach.
• 1990s – Our first store expands to a larger premises and begins to grow.
• 2000s – South Island expansion begins, with new locations in Invercargill, Nelson and a second Christchurch branch added.
• 2010s – Investment in technology and global partnerships formed. Additional branches added in Blenheim, Dunedin and Timaru.
• 2020s - Today – A trusted name in fasteners, with nine stores including the addition of Ashburton and Cromwell.

Our Symbol of Strength and Connection

At Blacks Fasteners, we proudly display pounamu (New Zealand greenstone) as a symbol of our values and heritage. Pounamu is treasured in Aotearoa for its strength, durability, and deep cultural significance. 

This magnificent piece of stone was discovered in the Westland area of New Zealand in the 1990’s. It now sits in pride of place at our company headquarters in Christchurch, on top of its stunning hand carved Rimu wood stand. it’s a reminder of the importance of integrity, resilience, and connection. Just as pounamu is shaped over time, our business has grown through decades of commitment to people and partnerships. It reflects our promise to stand strong, adapt, and serve with care.

The stand has special meanings contained within the carving which represent:
